Nice to meet you, I’m Casey Schmid

I'm an ex nuclear engineer that has switched careers to web development. I have always had a passion for making people's lives easier by providing them with new tools, serving up data in an easy to access format, or streamlining an inefficient or difficult process. The web shouldn't be hard; and I've found my calling by making it easy.

Why I love Coding and Web Development

I truly enjoy making things better, fixing things, and looking for efficiency gains. With my technical background, I have a unique perspective on the world of web development that I believe gives me an edge. My military training has made me diligent and focused and my nuclear training has taught me how to work in extremely stressful situations as well as deal with deadlines and project milestones. I can converse easily with my clients about technical subjects and enjoy helping them solve their problems.

/ My Story

How I started as a web developer

I started my first career in the United States Navy as a nuclear operator on a ballistic missile submarine. After more than 8 years of military service, I got a job as a Nuclear Reactor Operator at the largest nuclear power plant in the United States. I loved my career in nuclear power but the schedule and stress were tough on me and my family. My wife is from Europe so, in 2021, we decided to make a change; we packed our things, moved to a new continent, and began a fresh start with new lives and new careers. I spent my first year in Europe completing my degree in Nuclear Engineering (something I had always wanted to do) and have been studying web development full time since September 2022. I have enjoyed every minute of my coding journey so far and can't wait to join a team of hard working, like-minded individuals!

Past education & credentials

I am constantly learning new things. I like challenges and I'm always looking to push my brain to the next level. The projects that are the most rewarding to me are the ones where I get to learn a new skill or apply an old one in a fresh, new way.
